From Cameroon with love

This is the first time ever I wear a piece of clothes from Africa. To have it on and to look into the mirror caused me such a good feeling as if  I felt a stronger connection with my style and my history. I want to invite you to love the work of this brand as much as I do. From the way they produce their clothes, to their history, you will want to be part of it. Check this out.

Grass Fields is a brand created by the twin sisters from Cameroon, Christelle and Michelle Nganhou. They want to bring together African textiles and western style – a combination of the two worlds we live in. The clothes are made in Cameroon with high-quality local textiles that come from Nigeria and Benin as well. They make sure their team working in Africa is working in an ethical and respectful environment in which they make three times more in salary than other workers in the same area there.

“We understand women shop more by their personality than anything else. This is why we spend our time constructing clothing that fits you well, flatters your body’s shape, and helps you feel confident when wearing it! Whether you’re after an African print dress, a dashiki shirt, or an African maxi skirt, we hope we will have something for you” say the sisters in their website.

This dress in the picture is my favourite. I love the bright print, how it is comfortable to wear. The piece is really well designed, and we can see it right away. I just wish it had a little bit less volume in the skirt, but I guess that’s just my personal taste. The length is perfect and the open in the back has a good size.

This type of dress is versatile. It can be worn with heels and a clutch for a party look, or with a pair of sneakers, you make the look more fun and streetwear.

This dress is a keeper. To wear a piece handmade in Africa made me feel the need of reconnecting with my heritage. It brought me a beautiful feeling. I will spread the word to my African girls here in Oslo too.

But it is important to say that anyone can wear this dress, despite heritage – although the whole world has something from Africa. You just have to like colours and fun, good quality styles.

Check out their webshop, they have a great sale now and some new arrivals that are to die for. They deliver worldwide and you won’t be disappointed.
