I’ve been using face masks every day for the last months. I’d agree with you if you’d say it is too much. But you know how extra I can be, right? But the heavy usage of Face masks was part of my experiment to make this ultimate-complete-ultra honest review. Are fast masks a fad? Should you invest? What’s your best fit? Check this out.
Face masks seem to be one of the major trends in the beauty industry at the moment. They can save the day when you need a quick boost on your face but they can also be a waste of resources. They are surely a fun way of spending your time. But does your skin really needs this type of pampering?
A good facial may include an initial cleansing treatment and steam treatment to ready the skin for the mask, as well as an application of toner and moisturizer following the mask to prevent dryness.
There are many options of ready-to-use masks on the market but you can choose to DIY with stuff you got at home. For this, I use Maja Hattvang‘s book – Naturlig Nok. She is a Norwegian author, creative and one of my favourite ladies <3
For starters, I usually wash my face with a mild soap and warm water to help to open the pores. Then I start with a deep cleansing/purifying face mask.
Here are the ones I tested and what I found out about them.
The promise: this 100% vegan tingling clay mask is infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil. Draws out impurities and refines the appearance of pores for healthy-looking skin with a glow that shows.
The truth: Smells clean and fresh, has a bodied texture, brown colour and id full of mall pieces of green tea leaves. Has a warming effect that at first seem to be a skin irritation but at last feels comforting. It is hands down THE BEST face mask I have ever used. Instant results. Skin becomes softer, appears deeply clean, brighter and glowy. I am in my 2nd jar, heading to the 3rd really soon.
The promise: 100% vegan masking formula deeply purifies, gently exfoliates and liberates your skin from the weekly build-up of city pollutants and everyday impurities.
The Truth: the Moussy texture feels good on the skin, smells like something you can eat. It is much milder than the previous one, that must be why you can use it 2-3 times a week. It is quite nice to have on and the skin feels softer and brighter after usage. But I’d go for the first one instead.
The promise: a mineral-rich face mask expertly formulated to help purify and soothe oily skin that’s prone to blemishes and acne. Unclog impurities and excess sebum whilst minimising the appearance of pores without stripping away essential oils.
The truth: Easy to spread on the face, nice texture. Takes only 5 minutes – which is good to me. But honestly, I can’t even say that I got any results from it. My skin seemed pretty much the same after using this mask. I wouldn’t bother buying it.
The promise: helps absorb excess sebum to reduce shine, purifies the skin, mattifies it and leaves it velvety soft.
The truth: It does mattify the skin without drying it out. The tube makes it easier to apply. Washes out easily too. It is a fairly good, mild mask that I can recommend for those with sensitive skin. I like using wearing it before I do my makeup.
The Promise: will reduce the size and number of imperfections* and achieve clearer, smoother, and healthier-looking skin while you sleep.
The Truth: It delivers! Although I am not a fan of the word “imperfections”, I can relate to what they mean. This mask left my skin looking flawless in the morning. perfect amount of natural oils, natural glow, even tone… I loved it. I let it in the fridge for an ultra cooling effect. It can be a bit string tho, so I used 3 times a week only.
The Promise: Refines skin texture and reveals a fresh glow and luminous tone. While the face mask stays on the skin it chemically exfoliates with AHAs and then the volcanic rocks provide a mechanical exfoliation as you rinse it off.
The Truth: While I was writing the paragraph above I felt like using the mask again so I could look for the expected results once again. Because all the times I used, I didn’t experience anything extraordinary. It smells great, feels good on the skin but it ain’t an investment I’d advice you to make, to be honest.
SKIN Camilla Pihl 24K Gold Peel Off Mask
The Promise: The luxurious peel-off mask works deeply on the skin to remove dead cells and unclog pores. The anti-age formula encourages skin renewal for a glowy younger-looking skin.
The truth: It hurts every time I put it on! Looks great on the selfie, but it is just not good for me. It needs to be dry to be peeled off, but if it is dry it is so hard to peel. I just do not recommend it. For this reason, there is no link for it on my blog.
The promise: A triple oxygenating blend delivers an infusion of pure essential Oxygen to detoxify and re-energize skin to restore a youthful, luminous complexion. Detoxifies and eliminates ageing dullness, encourages vital cell energy, PHA/Bionic Blend adds extra youth-promoting benefits to restore radiance and suppleness.
The Truth: Go get it! 🙂 It is one of the best products on the long list. Skin becomes way softer, after three uses, pores look really finer, kin tone more even and texture more balanced. I really love it.
The Promise: The 10-minute moisture fix for dull, tight, thirsty skin—this hydrating face mask contains super-quenching Leaf of Life extract to smooth fine lines, soothe irritations and revive radiance. Refreshing cream-gel formula enhances skin with a healthy-looking glow.
The Truth: gives the skin a boost of hydration. Ideal for the “winter-skin”. I like to have it in the fridge and to apply before I do my makeup. The brand advices to remove with a toner lotion but I tried and it gets my skin to produce too much oil. Best if rinsed off.
The Promise: Tightens and gives your skin a more even tone, and leaves your skin looking more relaxed, moisturised and luminous. Also softens and calms the skin as well as reduces the visibility of fine lines. It is a face mask that works overnight, prevents visible signs of daily stress and leaves your skin looking more beautiful in the morning.
The Truth: gives my skin a good moisture and I feel my face softer when I wake up. But that’s was all for me. I think it is a bit too many promises, to be honest. It is an ok mask, it was good to try it. The brand has some amazing products and I still keep buying them. But this mask is not the most amazing they have.
The promise: This vibrant face mask exfoliates and invigorates sleepy skin to help it look wide awake. For skin that needs a fast recharge from signs of fatigue and stress.
The Truth: It smells great, feel very natural. It has a gelly sticky texture but in a good way and it makes a soft exfoliation. The color is pretty and I feel like I could be eating it. The result is not so dramatic as the Himalayan clay but it does leave my skin more brighten and slightly tighter.
Btw I have it on right now while I write this paragraph. Been editing this post a lot cause I am reusing all of the masks to get more ideas for this post.
The promise: For skin that needs to be quenched and re-plumped with moisture to reveal its dewy glow again. Moisturises, soothes and tones skin. Reveal skin that’s replenished with moisture and visibly smooth with a youthful dewy appearance.
The truth: Yes, yes and yes! All I can say is: go get it. Click the link above. It is amazing, shows results right away. I love it.
The promise: Cucumber Slice Mask Sheet that delivers high levels of Vitamin C and helps to maintain moisture level. Piece by piece application from the film is easy to use and can apply to your face as well as neck, arms or legs where it’s necessary.
The truth: It is moisturizing, at first seems super fun and looks good in pictures. But honestly, I had no patience for so many small pieces. It wasn’t clear to me that the masks could be used in other places than the face. Maybe I would have. But I do prefer the full sheet mask.
Again, looks great. But it was a bit too much work for my taste.
The promise: Helps minimize the appearance of dark spots and various pigmentation irregularities for a more even complexion. Hydroquinone-free facial sheet is effective in all tones, leaving skin looking more radiant.
The truth: The single packs containing the masks are quite heavy so I could see that the sheet is packed with products. It is easy to apply on the face and it sticks, so you can actually walk and do other stuff during the 30 min (!!!) you should have it on. My skin was left very soft, moisturized and glowy. but not a long lasting one. Couldn’t experience the brightening effect after using up the 3 sheets in the pack. It is a good mask but nothing remarkable.
The promise: The immediate effects are visible after just a 15-minute treatment; tightened and glowing skin. But on a deeper level, with continuous use, they will also reduce fine lines, even out skin tone and leave the skin truly rejuvenated. Each mask can be used 3 times
The truth: Practical for being dry, covers up the whole face and can be used 3 times. I used before makeup and in between looks during photoshoots. I like the natural glow as an immediate result but could not notice any long-term results mentioned by the brand. I would (and will) get myself more of it. 🙂
The promise: a high-performance mask that will leave your skin bright and radiant with a more luminous, even tone.
The truth: packed with product, very moisturizing. Good mask but did not make anything wonderful. It is also a bit pricey.
Skincare is the best investment you will ever do to your skin. Even if face masks are a trend now, I like to think that they are a type of polishing that you do, but the base that the mask will work on is much more important. I mean that it does not matter how many face masks you buy, what matters is how you are actually treating your skin on a daily basis.
Masks can be a great thing if you think of them as a short-term solution, like quick fixes. Some of the masks I presented here can be used in long term to help you achievig the dream skin, but please, mind that not everything is for everyone. Be patient and pay attention to the signs your skin gives to you.
If you can, go get a skin analysis to help you find out what you actually needs. I may get one soon too.
